Meet Us


Rob Moncur
Zack Oates

After living in Ukraine on a two-year church mission, Zack saw the need to start an organization supporting domestic violence shelters. Before he graduated in Advertising Management from BYU, Courage to Hope was already up and running.  He currently is working full time as a marketing consultant and serves as the President of Courage to Hope.

Kristy Ashworth

Kristy has served as the Vice President of Courage to Hope since its foundation. She is a graduate of Brigham Young University and is currently pursuing an MPA in non-profit management from the University of Utah. She has spent the past four years working in accounting and in the non-profit sector recruiting volunteers and directing service programs in Ukraine, Russia, Mexico and China.

Chelsea Madsen M.S., LMFT

Chelsea serves as the Director of Family Solutions. She is working on her PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy at Kansas State University, studying under an internationally renowned expert on domestic violence.  She is currently working on various domestic violence research as it affects relationships and families.  She completed her Masters of science in Marriage and Family Therapy at Brigham Young University as well as her bachelors of science from BYU in Marriage, Family and Human Development. She has participated in many different research projects in the last seven years evaluating and obtaining information of healthy family functioning. She has also spent hundreds of hours providing therapy to couples, individuals and families.

Naomi Deighton

Naomi currently serves as theDirector of Volunteer Relations. She arrived in the United States in 2006 having been raised in Greater London, England. She will be graduating this April from Brigham Young University with a BA in studio arts, emphasis painting and drawing. Prior to becoming a member of Courage to Hope, Naomi volunteered with Utah Healing Arts, and continues to collaborate with them to organize weekly activities for Local Women’s shelters in Utah County.

Jonathan Walgamott

Jonathan is the newest member of Courage to Hope. He is currently serving as the director of marketing. Jonathan will graduate in 2011 with a BA in Advertising from Brigham Young University. He has consulted with a number of companies and organizations regarding marketing and advertising strategies; and is the Advertising Director for the BYU Marketing Association. Jonathan is from Boise Idaho and is a proud Idahoian. He currently resides in Provo, Utah.

Rob Moncur

Rob currently serves as Courage to Hope's director of internet publication. He has three years of web design and development experience working with a variety of different companies and organizations. He served a two-year mission in Spain and speaks fluent Spanish and Portuguese. He is a senior at BYU studying Mechanical Engineering. He will complete his bachelors degree this year and continue on to graduate school in pursuit of a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA.

Jesse Moore

Jesse is the camera man and a true citizen of the world. There is always a new place to discover, someone's story to capture and share. Jesse is always there, camera at the ready. Whether it's at your wedding or your granddaughter's, whether it's glaciers in Alaska or victims of domestic violence in Ukraine. His myriad of experience has taught him one thing, though: expensive equipment isn't what makes the best shots. It's the personality behind the camera. And he's got it. Within five minutes, you'll feel like you've known Jesse for years. Like he's part of the family. That's when your true self shines and the best photos are created - in that wink of an eye, that tug of a smile.

Rilee Buttars - International Development Advisor

Rilee is a student at BYU finishing her Bachelors in Advertising Creative and a minor in International Development. She is a co-president of SID, and is one of three directors of the Project Assessment and Evaluation Team under Ralph Brown, Carol Ward, and Tim Heaton. She is currently enrolled in 301, Applied Social Research Methods, with Carol Ward. She will begin her master in Sociology in fall 2011 at BYU. She has recently done projects in Guatemala and India and additionally worked with a number of NGOs including rising star outreach, help International, and sowers of Hope.

Nat Harward - PR Advisor

Having served as the VP of Public Relations during Courage to Hope's first year, Nat now fills a PR advisory role for Courage to Hope. Currently, he is a features writer for University Communications at BYU. While at BYU, Nat has served as the Communications Vice President of the student body association, conducted public relations research and campaign planning through the Bradley PR Lab, reported for The Daily Universe and played drums in a rock band. After completing coursework in public relations with minors in economics and business, Nat will participate in the BYU Communications Department's New York Internship Program. He aspires to stay in the city for a few years, working with a healthcare practice group at a PR agency. He plans to then return to school and earn degrees in law and healthcare management.
Kelly
Professor Kevin Kelly

Prof. Kelly, of BYU's Department of Communications serves as the chief advisor for the media-related activities of Courage to Hope. Professor Kelly has worked for 20+ years as a copywriter in advertising and teaches a variety of BYU advertising classes. He specializes in developing campaigns through primary research. He has worked on public service campaigns for Christian Children's Fund and has done extensive work with the Office of National Drug Control on their youth anti-drug campaign. The implementation of his talents tackling these tough issues and mentoring will strongly aid in the creation of both the Ukrainian and American campaigns to choose the most effective modes of communication.
